My Experience as a Panelist at the Detroit Natural Hair Expo

There were afros, twistouts, braidouts, tapered cuts, box braids, faux locs, wigs, quick weaves, and sew-ins. You name it, it was at the Detroit Natural Hair Expo.

*Warning this is a long post with LOTS of pictures*

So on Saturday, August 11, 2018, I conquered one of my biggest fears PUBLIC SPEAKING I was a panelist at the Detroit Natural Hair Expo “ Beauty Behind Blogging”. It was AMAZING, the night before I was a nervous wreck just thinking about all the stuff that could go wrong, but it was nothing short than AMAZING.

Now if you saw the previous post there were also some fellow bloggers/vloggers on the panel too. Those ladies were AMAZING we met and go to know each other so it helped a lot. So let’s start at the beginning.

I decided what I wanted to wear to the expo about 3-4 weeks prior, I decided to use my Forever 21 gift card I had gotten for my birthday back in June (whoop GEMINI!!!) So I purchased this:

Plus Size Longline Single-breasted Blazer($29.90)

Plus Size Distressed Jeans $29.90

Plus Size Knit Cami $3.90

I had some sandals that I purchased from Target about 3-4 years ago. I decided to wear my hair in a top knot since I had faux loss courtesy of DeAnna.

So I got to the expo about 12:00 just so I can browse around the booths and see what was there. I was one of the first panelists there so I met up with C. Michelle who was super adorable as well! We browsed around until everyone on the panel started meeting up and that’s when we all started taking pics and just talking. Of course, a few of us was nervous, but we all did an AMAZING JOB. Bloggers support bloggers and it was the most amazing feeling in the world.

Also, my kid took these amazing shots…gonna put her in a photo class ASAP. So the panel started and BOOM it was magical! I introduced myself and the nerves were gone. I know I am doing this for a reason because my nerves went away so fast. I am so passionate about blogging I didn’t realize it until I decided to change my name and quit procrastinating.

Everything went so smooth, I met one of my blogger/vloggers are the event and I didn’t even know she was from Detroit so that made it even more special! Go so many business cards and make long-lasting relationships which is always important in the blogging world. I know ya’ll probably tired of me talking so here are all the pics from the Expo. I can’t wait until next year! Also, I’d like to say the With a Dash of Melanin giveaway will be dropping today to be sure you are following my Instagram for the post around 12:30/1:00 EST.

I just wanted to thank the super dope woman over the whole event possible Eonica!!! I am beyond proud of you and I know for the 3rd year it will be even bigger than this year. You are amazing at what you do and I am beyond thankful & grateful for the opportunity you have given me to not only spread my wings and talk about what I love but meet some amazing women along that road. I am blessed to call you my friend and I thank you beyond words can explain!

  3. You looked so cute!!! I’m glad you were able to conquer your fear of public speaking. I think that being a blogger most people think you wouldn’t have a fear speaking in from of people but we mostly talk to each other online so it easier. The expo looked like it was so much fun. I definitely need to put it on my to do list to go maybe next year.
